The Regional Arts Commission (RAC) is pleased to present Under Construction, a collaborative exhibition with Metro Arts in Transit (AIT), curated by Emily Blumenfeld of Via Partnership. The exhibit will feature the work of national and local artists Ellen Driscoll and Janet Zweig from Brooklyn, New York; Erwin Redl, Andrew Ginzel and Kristen Jones from New York City; Brower Hatcher from Providence, Rhode Island; Douglas Hollis from San Francisco; and Lindsey Stouffer, Andy Cross, Carl Harris and Tai Tessmer from St. Louis.
Metro Arts in Transit set the national standard for new transit infrastructure design in 1986 by inviting artists to collaborate with architects and engineers on the first phase of MetroLink, the regions light rail system. Under Construction will showcase the proposed artwork for the new Cross County MetroLink Extension scheduled to open in September 2006, with scaled maquettes, drawings and video.
"This exhibition is a chance to peek into the process by which public art is selected," said Blumenfeld. "In addition to the proposals for this particular project, Arts in Transit will mount a retrospective of past [Arts in Transit] works and their impact on the St. Louis region."
